This is a print of a compilation of five original watercolor paintings by Katrina Harrington accompanied by her calligraphy.
The Luminous Mysteries are as follows:
I) The Baptism of Christ in the Jordan, Dove of the Holy Spirit, Aquilegia (white)
The Baptism of Our Lord is represented by a white columbine (columbines have lots of meanings!) because its dove-like petals resemble the descending Holy Spirit at Christ's baptism in the Jordan.
II) The Wedding Feast at Cana, Grapes, Vitis vinifera
Grapes represent Christ's first miracle at The Wedding at Cana when he turned water into wine. According to my research, it isn't definitively known whether the wine was red or white, but for this piece, I chose grapes that would create a special white wedding wine that was likely to have been served at such a celebration.
III) Jesus' Proclamation of the Coming of the Kingdom of God, Kingdom of Heaven, Brassica nigra
The mustard plant calls upon the parable of the mustard seed to symbolize Christ's Proclamation of the Kingdom of God.
IV) The Transfiguration, Heavenly Radiance, Solidago virgaurea
Goldenrod means Heavenly Radiance (isn't that lovely?) so it fits for the Transfiguration.
V) The Institution of the Eucharist, Honesty (Eucharistic symbol), Lunaria annua
The Institution of the Eucharist is symbolized by the honesty (sometimes called money) plant with its seed pods that resemble the communication hosts that become the Body of Christ at the consecration.
