This is the original 5x7in painting "Myrtle, Flower of Mary," done in watercolor by Katrina Rose Harrington in May of 2024 when she did a flower study as she read through Fr. L. Gemminger's book, "Flowers of Mary," and painted one flower a day.
Excerpts from “Flowers of Mary.” by Fr. L. Gemminger, 1858.
- “Today we will celebrate this union of hearts, by reflecting on that flower, which is the emblem of the bridal tie; namely, the Myrtle; it is a fair and tender flowret with small green leaves somewhat like that of the box-weed. A bride, on her wedding day, adorns her hair and dress with these pretty little snow white buds and blossoms. The heart of the Virgin Mary is like the Myrtle, for she is a spouse in a three fold sense.
To him who happiness here seeks,
O Christian soul, the Myrtle speaks:
It tells of holy mystic vows
By which the spirit may espouse
The gentle Mary, purest dove,
And thus forever gain her love.
A medal with her image fair,
Let each upon his bosom wear;
They will she hear her love extend,
That we may reach a blissful end.”
